Blessed with the musical, drawing and writing gifts of her parents, Yejide performed at Avery Fisher Hall and Carnegie Hall as a youth. She was inspired by the revolutionary tents of Woodstock and Black Power movements and her writings and singing began to encompass political elements. While Yejide performed internationally, she participated in community and activist works, managed her performance and production company, We Manifest, acquired her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from John Jay College and continually provides a loving supportive and edu-cultural environment for her daughter, Tajh and son, koyami. As the sole female performer of Eye Tree Society/ Trus Fund Entertainment Inc., Yejide proves the power of the mind and heart is infinite when channeled through a positive and creative vessel
Yejide's mini CD, "SEVENTH!" is still circulating throughout NYC with production by DJ Evil D (BeatMinerz), Scienz Of Life (Subverse Music) and others. Her works have resulted in the "Womon Award 2000" from WERISE (Womyn Empowered through revolutionary Ideas supporting Enterprise) for contributing to 'the powerful movement of women artists and entrepreneur's'. She's received national love through several magazines, countless mix-tapes, radio stations and video plugs from de comedy jam, MTV's the Grind and ABM's Dance Africa in and Japan Dance Filed video series. International love was given at Club Citta, Club R. Japan and Theater Barb in Bordeaux, France. Yejide has graced stages with the Pam Africa the Roots, Rha Goddess, dead prex Medusa,Mos Def, Jessica Care Moore and Abiodun (the Last Poets), to name a few.
Yejide (pronounced Yeh-jih-day) is West Nigerian name from the Yoruba, loosely meaning "in the image of her mother'. She states, "My name signifies homage to all Mothers, the beauty of African cultures and my contribution of Yin energies to a world in need of universal balance and healing.' The title 'Night Queen' describes this soulful beacon's dimly lit search for Spiritual Oneness in a world of cash-rules-everything- around-me performers. Her audience is awed by her directness and mesmerized by the mental illustrations freed through her word-sound- power. Yejide continues to strengthen her aura with vibe- orations of ancestral wisdom, true lyrical prowess and a style no one can imitate.
Currently, Yejide is working on several projects and preparing us for her new Age of Aquarius!
